"The Hitachi DZ-HS300A is one of the first hybrid camcorders available. This means that the user can record to the hard drive and transfer it to DVD or record directly to the DVD. This is perfect for people like me that want the best of both worlds! It's great in this sense, but I feel that it lacks more than it offers.

First of all, the overall look of this camcorder is cheap looking at best. With advanced technology, I expect for the products I buy to become sleeker and better proportioned. This camcorder leaves much to be desired. It looks bulky. The material is lightweight and has a cheap feel to it.

However, not to be one to judge a book by its cover, I was willing to try it out for the simple fact that I wanted to have a hybrid camcorder. My first issue is that the menu screen is on the LCD screen (which is normal), but the screen has to be put at a certain angle to access the menu. Call me lazy, but I don't really want to be messing around with the screen when I want to start filming.

The picture quality is decent enough but I have issues with the quality in low light (and even when the lighting is good to be honest!), the colors are just not as true as in person. There is also an issue with the shakiness of the video. The stabilization is not great. If someone is planning on using a tripod for most of their videos, then this is a non-issue, however, I prefer to just hold the camcorder.

Considering the price, I would say that this is worth trying only if you really want a hybrid camcorder. I think you would be better off choosing a different camcorder that either records to a hard drive or DVD. It has been a bit of a disappointment." Judy Rodgers. Houston. USA.
