"This compact camcorder is very neat and cool looking, especially when compared to all of the other camcorders available. It looks very high tech and is small enough to fit into your pocket. The cool look is exactly what will lure in the unsuspecting consumer. I know this because I was one of those unsuspecting consumers!!! The allure of that tiny, blue, camcorder just pulled me in. Did I mention that it's also waterproof?
But that is where the attraction ends. This camcorder is meant to be easily held in a single hand. It is easy to some extent but it is also kind of awkward because it is so slim. What I will say is that the menu is very easy to use and read. The controls are not difficult to maneuver like many of the other camcorders available these days with one exception. It is very difficult to keep the zoom moving at a steady pace. This can make the videos appear choppy.
The Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 can be submerged up to five feet for an hour at a time. This is actually much less than the other available waterproof cameras within a similar price range. So, if the waterproof capability is a deciding factor, then it is probably a better idea to go with one of the other options.
The photo quality leaves much to be desired. The underwater picture quality is rubbish (I tried it in our local pool) and that is surprising considering this is it's biggest selling point.
I have few good things to say about this camcorder besides the fact that it does look really cool. I have had a lot of people notice the camcorder and ask questions. Unfortunately, I do need to be honest and explain that the Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 is not worth the money and I will be buying a better camcorder as soon as possible." Jack Wilson. Richland. USA.
